As we watch the anime series Avatar, on TV or online, we don’t really realize how much effort actually goes into making these characters get characteristics that make them praiseworthy as well as adorable.

One such attribute is instilled by Mea in the character named Katara, who is a Water-bender of the Southern Water Tribe.

This beautiful star not only does have a beautiful voice, but a very beautiful heart, too.

This adorable lady was recently seen in a charity event, meant to raise sum for an organization called Autism Speaks. It works for the welfare of autistic children,

And you know what; it is the world’s largest non-profit organization, offering advocacy to these special children.

Awww! Mae, I am so proud of you.

Well, this event was planned at House of Blues in L.A., primarily to inaugurate Blue Tie-Blue Jean Ball, but alongside helped raising money for the N.G.O.

Can anyone guess that how much amount they managed to collect through that event?

Seeing those less fortunate than us, has always been an inspiration to be grateful and count our blessings.

However, when we, despite all that we are blessed with, sulk over the little that we are deprived of, and then see someone, who has just a fraction of what we have, smiling and being cheerful, more than being inspirational, it is humiliating, and serves as a huge wakeup call.

True, isn’t it?

Toph Bei Fong of Avatar: The Last Airbender is one such character, who has embraced her disabilities with immense grace, and made us realize that not even the greatest of shortcomings are worth crying and getting disappointed over.

Toph is the only blind character in the series, and despite being pulled back and considered worthless by her parents, she has always believed in herself and tried to discover what her strengths are, instead of allowing her weakness define her life.

Even though her parents kept her confined and refused to introduce her to the society around her, she used her company with the blind Badgermoles to develop skills that made her a blind Earth-bending master.

But that was just the beginning of her willpower, which over the course of the series, was to stun and inspire millions, who watched the show.

She made the most of the senses in her that worked, by using her superior hearing ability and sense of touch to detect changes in people’s heartbeat, when they lied.

Her sense of self-worth and self-admiration is always wonderful to watch.

Tune in to Avatar The Last Airbender online to see how she does not allow anyone to ever put her down, or make her feel worthless, because of her disabilities.

As you watch this character, you are sure to fall in love with her, despite her cocky attitude, and you shall definitely be learning a wonderful lesson, each time you watch her braving against all odds, to make the best of what she has.

You could learn a lesson or two from her too!

One look at Mae Whitman is enough to know that she’s not just another pea in the pod, but has got something very different about her. Her look speaks of fierce independence, rebellion and incredible guts.

That explains why she’s got a stereotypic role of a rebel, which accompanies nearly all her roles.

Before we go any further about this girl and the things she likes and dislikes, I’ve got some clarifying to do, for those of you who love to download episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender, but can’t figure out what Mae has got to do with the show.

Well, if you love the character of Katara, then you love Mae, because the beautiful voice behind this character, is hers.

With the air cleared out on that, let’s get to business, and talk about some stuff about Mae, that I bet you don’t know.

Well, let’s start with two things that this girl absolutely loves.

The first is reading, and the second doing voice-overs.

As far as reading is concerned, Mae says that her love for books dates back to when she was a little girl. She loves reading, because it takes her to a different world, allows her to travel to places where she has never been, and stimulates her imagination, without constricting it visually, like movies do.

While that’s for the ‘good’ in this post, let’s move on to the ‘bad’.

This one is about a particular experience from her childhood that Mae shared with us. She reveals that she once had a friend, whom she later learnt, was very jealous of her guts.

For those of you who don’t know, this girl has been a rebel ever since she can remember, and has never been one to shy away or be afraid of anything.

This particular girl in question, decided to avenge Mae’s rebellious spirit, by dating all the guys that she had ever been with. Expectedly, Mae wasn’t the least bit affected by it, and just thought that the girl was very weird and creepy.

I so agree with you girl!

Oh, and if you’re wondering what the ‘beautiful’ part of this post is all about, well, to put it in one simple word, it’s ‘Mae’!

Need I say more?

Imagine if you could just crush metal like paper, wouldn’t that be super cool!

No more bullying in school, because you are armed with the metal bending technique!

Alas, I cannot earn this power!

(Sob sob)!

This technique evolves from earth-bending and an earth-bender can bend metal, just like they can bend earth.

But, how can an earth-bender bend metal?

Aren’t they two different elements?

Yes, they are two different elements; but here comes the coolest part – metal being present in earth makes the metal bendable.

You need more explanation?

See, according to Toph, if you concentrate on the earth particles present in metal and bend them, the metal will automatically bend.

Hmmm, that is something unusual.

You can watch Toph practicing metal-bending in Avatar: The Last Airbender. I observed his techniques carefully to fully understand this special technique.

The episodes featuring Toph are available online.

This technique was first used, or should I say, developed by Toph, when she was captured in a metal cage by Xin Fu and Master Yu. She set herself free by bending the cage.

However, the metal-bending technique has its own limitations. Like, in Toph’s case, she has to be close to the metal object, in order to bend it.

Toph is able to deform sheets of metal, but cannot reform it. This was evident when she tried to escape from a wooden cell, but couldn’t touch a metal cell that was nearby.

This technique cannot bend metal with less impurity, like gold. Nonetheless, this technique is immensely powerful, especially when the earth-bender has direct contact with the metal.

In one of the episodes, Toph was seen blasting a metal door with it hinges. The intensity was such that it reverberated four times, before coming to a stop!

Metal-bending is certainly a cool technique to master, and Toph is one lucky earth-bender!

I so envy her!

Just to warm up all of us before the much-awaited sequel of Avatar: The Last Airbender called the Legend of Korra, which is expected to go on air in 2012, the company, Dark Horse Comics, is going to release a new series of Avatar comics!

This comic is called Avatar: The Last Airbender – Promise Part 1. It’s going to be penned by the Eisner Award winning writer Gene Luen Yang. Yang himself loves to watch Avatar cartoons.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is a story having Asian mythological influences. It is set in a fictional era when our world was divided into four kingdoms: the Earth Kingdom, the Fire nation, the Water Tribes and the Air nomads. Peace between these four territories is maintained by Airbenders, Waterbenders, Earthbenders and Firebenders. Catch the show online to witness its creative concept!

Above all these peacemakers is the ultimate power called Avatar, who uses martial arts to bend all the four elements of nature. The story follows the protagonist Aang and his friends as they battle a villainous fire lord.

Taking cue from the massive success of the earlier seasons of the show, Nickolodeon has announced a sequel called The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra.

Gene Luen Yang, with the help of the creators of the animated series, is writing the Airbender graphic novel. This will be an 80-page novel in paperback that will be available in January 2012.

In a recent interview, Yang said that he has taken inspiration only from the Airbender television series and has not even watched the movie made on the same concept.

If you remember, the writer had expressed his opposition to the M. Night Shyamalam directed film The Last Airbender in 2010 as well, because he thought that the portrayal of the Asian boy Aang by a Caucasian in the movie was inappropriate and against the spirit of the character.

Well, we hope the new graphic novel hits the bookstores soon!

Here’s the sequel to Avatar the Last Airbender- the gorgeous and mature follow up, Korra!

It’s been a year when a sequel to the original series was announced, and yeah, we’ve got news of its fast-approaching release, slated for Summer 2012; though a long while after the original series ended.

The premiere of the new series was held at the San Deigo Comic Con, on July 23. And much to the delight of audiences, its trailers are also out. Well, this upcoming animated series from Nickelodeon follows the adventures of a passionate, iconoclastic and spunky teen girl named Korra, who has three of the four elements under her control- Earth, Water and Fire. With the intention to master air, Korra leaves her home in the Southern water tribe, and heads towards the United Republic.

As the trailer opens up, we get to see a giant statue of grown-up Aang and a flying bison, boasting of the wonderful countryside. Korra ventures on her quest to learn Airbending skills, landing in a modern Avatar world, where steampunk technology is in fashion!

Well, one can download the featurettes from the web and perceive Korra showing off her skills in various battle scenes, as she begins with her Airbending training! It’s simply stunning, trust me! The animation is more impressive this time around, accompanying several eye-popping action sequences in the web clip released.

Well, the storyline of this mini-series is set 70 years after the events of Avatar The Last Airbender, depicting a place where the benders and the non-benders come together to form a lively nation. Though the city is inflicted by crime all around, with an anti-bending group called “The Equalists” ruling it, Korra will display courage in her attempts to take on the risk at large.

Keep your fingers crossed till the spanking new series sees its release in the summer of 2012!

Mae Whitman is living the life that every young girl dreams of. Her life is a success story that started at the tender age of 3. With an enviable 20 years of acting experience in the industry, Mae is in a league apart from her contemporaries.

The best part is that unlike most young actresses who find success so early, Mae doesn’t seem to have lost track of the important things in life. She embraces her chubby physique with pride, and steers clear of the maddening ‘size-zero’ craze that seems to be swallowing practically every actress in Hollywood.

When asked which of the characters she plays is closest to her heart, Mae is quick to respond that each character is very special to her. She believes that every role that she’s played till date has had a bearing on her personality and her life. She goes on to say that there’s nowhere else she’d rather be than where she is right now.

However, the road hasn’t been smooth all the way for the endearing young girl. A few years back, just like any other teenage girl, she also had to deal with the complexities associated with this phase of life. Highlighting that being a teenager is difficult, Mae says that she’s glad that the show she’s currently working on, ‘Parenthood’, addresses issues that really affect the teenagers.

Mae reveals that she’s super excited for her much-awaited movie, ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’, in which she stars with Emma Watson and Logan Lerman. Describing the movie as “realistic, beautiful and painful”, Mae can’t stop gushing about how perfect it all is. As we wait to see the latest from this pretty damsel, you can download your favorite episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender, in which she voices the character of Katara.

Avatar the Last Airbender series’ craze has been spreading like wildfire and this has become possible only because of its incredible characters. Comic Day proved to be no less than a celebration for the Californians, more precisely for Avatar fans, because they got a chance to read the exciting comic books of Avatar The Last Airbender – for free!

Don’t you think the fun quotient that is imbibed in a comic increases when it comes for free?

The comics which were distributed broadly are based on some seldom seen adventures of the central characters of the series. Its tales may look familiar to the readers, who catch Avatar the Last Airbender on a regular basis.

Every year, Dark House Comic Publishers organizes a free comic book day, in which the readers get a golden chance to read and own their favorite books for free. It can be a marketing gimmick in others’ eyes, but it can certainly be an interesting way to promote the habit of reading.

Those, who didn’t get the chance to read these comic books, can download all the engaging segments to witness the adventure-filled sequences of Avatar The Last Airbender! It would be great fun to watch the characters come alive, rather than watch them sticking to the pages!

The huge success of this event is no less than an achievement for the creators, because it reveals the love and fame that is associated with Avatar The Last Airbender. The series end didn’t seem to influence the popularity meter of the show.

Not every anime series can steal the hearts of the viewers and this series has done just that. Perhaps, the reason is the presentation of Asian culture that attracts people having an Asian origin. But it may not be all, as it is loved by one and all!

Howdy friends!

Being a stick-in-the-mud fan of the show, it may be considered necessary for you to acquaint yourself with some the hidden facts of Avatar the Last Airbender!

So what are you waiting for?

Here we go!

The first fascinating fact is centered on the color of the scenes.

If you pay a little more attention to the set’s colors while viewing the show, then you will come to know that all the installments have white backgrounds. Isn’t that strange? But then truth is always stranger than fiction!

Possibly it is the best way for the creators to highlight the characters, because a pearl white background makes all the anime characters look bright and energetic.

Well, perhaps this is the reason behind the critical acclaim that the series has drawn for its beautiful drawn and life-like characters.

And you know what?

Only the installment entitled ‘Southern Air Temple’ is laced with attractive multihued background. Isn’t it interesting?

The second striking fact of this show is that the names of the dragons have been coined expertly.

Yeah friends, according to ancient Chinese, Ran means explosion, while Shao stands for flame. It seems that deep research had been done while coining their meaningful names.

And you know what? On being hearing, ‘yip yip’ Appa, the ox, flies like a light-weight version of the forest bird.

Another unseen fact of this show is related to the costume of Katara, the female waterbender. Her war outfit has kept changing from one season to the next. It probably reflects the journey of a cheerful young girl, who gradually changes into a responsible warrior.

The next remarkable yet unnoticed fact is that Zuko’s vessel gets wrecked in every installment of the show!

I hope you liked all the fascinating facts about your favorite show. Now you can also share them with your family and friends!
